1000 Miles Mummy

As you may have noticed, I've changed the name of my challenge slightly as I think '1000 Miles Mummy' is more catchy. Plus that's my handle on Twitter so it makes it a bit easier to keep track! Watching me trying to use Twitter for the first time is like watching Bambi learning to walk, but I'll get there!

The challenge starts tomorrow - I'll be honest, I'm feeling apprehensive. It's one of those "can I really do this?" moments, but I have plenty of motivation and I'm already surprised and touched by the positive feedback and support I've received. My main concern is fitting the challenge into my life. I'm a single mum studying for a History degree with the Open University whilst desperately trying to keep my house in some sort of order! My plan is to walk early on in the day so that it'll blow the cobwebs away which will then leave me better prepared to study when I get home.

Although, best laid plans and all that!
Please keep sharing the blog and my various pages that are now straddling the internet. Your support is so greatly appreciated, thank you! x

It begins!

So I suppose I'd better start with a brief introduction! My name's Heather, I'm 22 years old and I have a lovely 21 month old daughter, Lola.

As part of my New Year's resolution, I've decided to take on a challenge. I'm a passionate supporter of Tommy's, the baby charity, and know lots of people who have been touched in some way by the work they do. I want to help raise money to prevent stillbirth and prematurity in the UK (and the world, but one step at a time!)

Nobody knows about my mad plan yet, not even my own Mum! But now it's in writing, it's official. I'm committed!

So what's the challenge?
Well, Lola and I will be walking 3 miles. Doesn't sound like much? Okay then, we'll be walking 3 miles every day. For a whole year. 365 days. Roughly equating to just short of 1100 miles. Come rain or shine, snow or hail, I'll be out pounding the streets with Lola in her pram, all to raise money for a brilliant cause!

Shockingly, approximately 6500 babies are born still or die shortly after birth every year in the UK. This is one of the highest rates in Europe. 17 families have to face the unimaginable pain and heartache of infant death every single day. I want to help in any way I can, let's face it, a few miles in the rain is nothing in comparison.

I'll be regularly updating this blog to keep you all in the loop, I also have a Just Giving page where you can donate at any time: https://www.justgiving.com/1000milesmummy

My goal is to raise at least £500 on this journey - anything you can give will be greatly appreciated.
